Happy Christmas Eve!

Hey, there, everyone! In case you don’t know me, I’m Melissa Schroeder, and I have a few books with Samhain. I grew up a military brat and now raise them. I have spent Christmas in so many different states and countries it is hard to keep count, lol. But, just like everyone else we have our holiday traditions. One of them is baking and one particular recipe.
I thought I would share a Bodnar (my maiden name) recipe. We made these every year no matter where my father was stationed at the time. I am super excited that I get to eat my mother’s this year because mine just don’t stand up to hers. It is an old Czechoslovakian recipe passed down from my great-grandmother, Elizabeth. It is also featured in Samhain’s The Write Ingredients cookbook which has some super recipes.
Grandma Bodnar’s Nut rolls
Ingredients:
1 cup lukewarm milk
2 eggs
3 envelopes yeast
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
4 cups of flour
Filling(mix together)
1-1/2 cup walnuts or pecans(chopped)
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg white
Directions:
Crumble yeast inot warm milk. Add to rest of dough ingredients and mix well until hands are clean from dough. Let rise 1 hour in a warm place. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with filling but not too close to the edge. roll up and seal all edges so filling doesn’t leak out. Let rise 1 hour again. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush with butter and bake for an hour.
And, don’t forget, I have a free story today available here at The Samhellion. A Little Harmless Kalikimaka features Chris and Cynthia from A Little Harmless Pleasure. I hope you enjoy it!
Happy Holidays, stay safe and celebrate.
